Saints Back Up Tight Ends Opt Out Due To Covid-19

New Orleans,LA – New Orleans Saints back up tight ends Cole Wick and Jason Vander Laan both opted out due to Coronavirus concerns.  According to the NFL & NFLPA agreement, if the opt out is voluntary, the player can receive a $150,000 payment. If a player is considered high risk and opts out, then he receives $350,000.

The Saints inked Wick to the practice squad back in Week 17 of Dec. 27 2019. Wick is a five year veteran out of Incarnate Word. Jason Vander Laan signed with the team midway thru the season played two games before finishing on the IR.

In Other News: former Saint three time Pro Bowl Offensive Lineman Larry Warford has elected to opt out of the 2020-21 NFL Season per source.

Warford was released by the Saints after the 2020 NFL Draft, after the Saints drafted first round pick center Cesar Ruiz. According to the NFL transaction wire thus far, 15 players have opted out.
