Mustipherfrom the Denver Broncos‘ practice squad. Mustipher, who stands at an imposing 6-4 and weighs 315 pounds, entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Broncos. During his preseason stint, he showcased his potential by notching six tackles, proving his value on the defensive front.
The Saints have claimed LB Monty Rice off of waivers from the Titans and signed DT P.J. Mustipher off the Broncos' practice squad.
The Saints also welcomed linebacker Monty Rice, who was claimed off waivers. Rice, a former third-round pick (92nd overall) in the 2021 NFL Draft by the Titans, brings with him a robust collegiate pedigree from the University of Georgia. Over the last three seasons, Rice has made his presence felt in the NFL, participating in 35 games with ten starts. His stats are impressive: 110 tackles (59 solo), a forced fumble, a pass defense, and 18 special teams stops. In the 2023 season alone, Rice contributed 17 tackles and a career-high nine special teams stops while playing in all 12 games for Tennessee.
In a corresponding move, the Saints have placed defensive lineman Malcolm Roach and safety Marcus Maye on the Injured Reserve list. Additionally, the team has terminated the practice squad contract of safety Daniel Sorensen. The Saints’ midweek roster overhaul signals a strategic approach as they continue to navigate the challenges of a demanding NFL season.
