New Orleans, LA- The New Orleans Saints got a little busy in the last few days leading into camp this week. The team inked veteran defensive lineman Evander “Ziggy” Hood to a one year deal yesterday.
Hood, 32, is a former first round pick by the Pittsburgh Steelers back in 2009 who has spent time with the Dolphins, Redskins & Jaguars. The 6-3 300 lb defensive end is coming in as the Saints are looking to be without starting DL Sheldon Rankins who is recovering from an tore achilles heel injury.
The back up for Rankins was David Onyemata who was suspended for 1 game for violating the league substance abuse policy. Hood is a massive lineman who can play interior or exterior for you and his career statistics are: 160 games played, 231 tackles, 14 sacks & 5 forced fumbles.
In other signings according to ESPN the Saints signed edge rusher Josh Martin to a deal today. Martin started nine games for the Jets in 2017 before being limited to just one game in 2018 because of injuries. He’s 6-4 245 lb DE/LB who has a career stat line of: 51 games, 85 tackles & 2.5 sacks in eight seasons.
The Saints also signed former Indianapolis Colt safety TJ Green to a deal today. Green (6-3, 215 lb) played 31 games with 11 starts in Indy from 2016-2017 with 88 tackles, three pass break ups & no picks. New Orleans released two players who were signed earlier this off season DL Kenny Bigelow and WR Chad Hansen in a corresponding move.
