Shedeur Sanders doesn’t want his father showing up to watch him at Cleveland Browns training camp. Not that Deion Sanders has too much time now, considering he recently revealed he beat bladder cancer and has to focus on a college football season starting in a little more than three weeks.
The Coloradohead coach will go into 2025 without coaching his son while Shedeur Sanders fights for more reps at practice. In a crowded quarterback room that also features fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel , Sanders has to look for ways to stand out.
He’s currently on the mend dealing with shoulder soreness. But that won’t stop Sanders from trying to improve a lot well before he would like his father to come watch him throw around the pigskin at the pro level.
“I look at my own point of view. Like, I don’t want him coming to see me right now, because I want to get to where I want to go then for him to see me,” Sanders said. “I don’t want him to come and see me, ou know, get a couple reps and you know, he’s cheering like a good dad, like, Nah, you can’t be proud of me right now. I gotta get to where I’m going.
“And I know it’s a lot I got to do to get there. So it’s kind of like I just want everything that I’m doing is just like, focus on this time, and I don’t want no distractions. Because we know how the media, we know how everybody will take it and take away from the team, just from him being my own dad showing up. So, you know, it’s a gift and a curse at the same time.”
