The New Orleans Saints are making strategic moves to capitalize on the NFL‘s new quarterback rule, which allows teams to carry an additional quarterback on the game-day roster as an emergency option. This rule change has prompted the Saints to take full advantage, as they now boast four quarterbacks on their 53-man roster.
One of the most notable changes is the shift in designation for Taysom Hill from tight end to quarterback. Hill had been listed as a tight end throughout training camp, but this adjustment opens up the possibility of him serving as the team’s QB2. Under this scenario, Derek Carr would take the helm as QB1, with Hill stepping in as QB2. In case of unforeseen circumstances such as injury or ejection, the Saints have Jameis Winston and rookie fourth-rounder Jake Haener as emergency third quarterbacks, ready to step in and maintain their offensive momentum.
This strategic maneuver not only enhances the Saints’ roster depth but also showcases their adaptability in navigating the ever-evolving NFL landscape. With this quartet of quarterbacks, the team is well-prepared to face the uncertainties of an NFL season, ensuring that they have the necessary depth at the most critical position in football.
