Terence “Bud” Crawford, a dominant force in boxing with an immaculate 40-0 record, is reportedly setting his sights on a historic challenge against WBO super welterweight champion Tim Tszyu (24-0). Known for his skillful mastery in the ring, Crawford, a three-weight world champion, is eyeing a world title in a fourth division. This ambition sets the stage for a potential clash with Australia’s rising star, Tszyu.
At 29, Tszyu has already carved a formidable reputation with significant victories over Tony Harrison and Carlos Ocampo. These triumphs catapulted him to the world champion status with the WBO after Jermell Charlo was stripped of the belt. The potential matchup with Tszyu comes as Crawford’s anticipated rematch with Errol Spence has been delayed due to Spence’s recent cataract surgery.
Crawford’s trainer, Bernie Davis, speaking on MillCity Boxing, revealed that a fight with Tszyu is the preferred option at the moment. “I think Tszyu will be the right one since we can’t get Spence,” Davis commented. He expressed the team’s desire to continue making history, noting Tszyu’s impressive track record and strong fanbase in Australia as key factors in their decision.
Tszyu’s achievements and the opportunity to conquer another weight class make this matchup particularly appealing for Crawford. Meanwhile, Tszyu is gearing up for a bout in Las Vegas in late March, with former world title challenger Erickson Lubin as the likely opponent. This fight sets the stage for what could be a defining moment in Crawford’s illustrious career, as he aims to solidify his legacy further by capturing a world title in a fourth weight class.
