The Cowboys were hoping for cornerback Trevon Diggs to return to the lineup this Sunday against the Denver Broncos. Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem to be the case for Dallas, per head coach Brian Schottenheimer.
“Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer on 105.3 The FAN said he doesn’t think CB Trevon Diggs will be able to play Sunday,” Jon Machota of The Athletic posted on X. “He has not practiced this week while being in concussion protocol.”
The news comes after Diggs did not play in the Cowboys’ 44-22 win over the Washington Commanders this past Sunday, after he suffered an accident at his home that put him in concussion protocol. Evidently, he won’t be ready in time for this weekend’s game against Denver either.
Moreover, Diggs spent the preseason on the physically unable to perform list, but has started every other game of the regular season. He’s recorded 18 tackles this season.
After Dallas’ win over the Commanders this past weekend, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said he spoke with Diggs about his concussion. He declined to reveal how the two-time Pro Bowler suffered the injury.
“I don’t know the combination of the injury and how it impacted, regarding concussion issue, I’m not sure that I know the detail of how that happened,” Jones said, via Jeff Kolb of FOX 4 News. “He said what happened, and I’m not saying that didn’t happen.
“But a lot of times, you’re not the best viewer of what happened to you. … Yeah, no, I won’t get into that, but the bottom line is that I do expect him back.”
Alas, Diggs has battled a slew of injuries in recent years. After signing a five–year, $97 million contract in 2023, Diggs tore his ACL in practice only two weeks into the regular season. He missed the remainder of the season.
