Unprepared Pelicans Thoroughly Routed by OKC 124-92

By Rell Wright, Pelicans Contributor

In a startling display of dominance, the Oklahoma City Thunder dismantled the New Orleans Pelicans 124-92 in Wednesday night’s playoff showdown, taking a commanding 2-0 lead in their first-round Western Conference series. From the outset, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the charge with a game-high 33 points, showcasing a focus and execution reminiscent of seasoned playoff veterans. Alongside him, Chet Holmgren contributed 26 points and seven rebounds, while Jalen Williams added 21 points.

The Thunder’s precision was on full display as they shot 59% from the field and hit 14 of 29 from beyond the arc. Despite Jonas Valanciunas’s 19 points and combined 36 points from Herb Jones and Brandon Ingram, the Pelicans struggled to find rhythm, particularly in the absence of top scorer Zion Williamson due to injury. Oklahoma City also capitalized on New Orleans‘ 18 turnovers, converting them into 22 points. As the series shifts to New Orleans for Game 3, the Pelicans face a significant challenge to rebound from this setback and reassert themselves on home court.
