Boxing’s first weekend of September delivers two very different main-event stories: a former heavyweight champion attempting to rebuild his career in New Jersey and an Irish icon preparing to close hers in front of a massive home crowd in Dublin.
Friday night’s card at Prudential Center features Andy Ruiz Jr. vs. Damian Knyba, with middleweight contenders Vito Mielnicki Jr. and Austin “Ammo” Williams meeting in the chief-support bout. On Saturday, Katie Taylor faces undefeated Flora Pili at Croke Park in what is being promoted as Taylor’s farewell fight.

Andy Ruiz Jr. vs. Damian Knyba
Ruiz returns after another long period of inactivity, but he arrives at 254.3 pounds—his lightest weight in years—and has reunited with trainer Manny Robles. Knyba presents the obvious physical problem. Ruiz cannot afford to follow him in straight lines or spend long stretches waiting outside punching range.

- Maintain a consistent pace despite the layoff.

- Keep the fight long and force Ruiz to reset.
- Tie up immediately when Ruiz reaches the pocket.
- Use the right uppercut when Ruiz dips forward.
- Avoid trading extended combinations at close range.
Prediction
Knyba’s dimensions should create difficult moments, particularly early, but Ruiz’s hand speed and experience against elite heavyweights are the difference. Expect Ruiz to work his way inside, bank the middle rounds and survive a few uncomfortable late exchanges.

Vito Mielnicki Jr. vs. Austin “Ammo” Williams
This is arguably the most competitive fight on Friday’s card. Mielnicki enters with momentum and a disciplined, improving approach. Williams brings speed, power and athleticism, but previous defeats showed that sustained pressure and adversity can pull him out of his preferred rhythm.
Mielnicki must avoid turning the opening rounds into a reckless firefight. If he works behind the jab, attacks the body and gradually forces Williams backward, the fight should begin tilting his way in the second half.
Williams’ path is built around fast starts, clean counters and denying Mielnicki the confidence to walk him down.

Katie Taylor vs. Flora Pili
Saturday’s main event is much larger than a championship fight. Taylor returns to Ireland for the final bout of her professional career, headlining Croke Park against unbeaten French challenger Flora Pili.
Taylor enters 25-1 with six knockouts. Pili is 12-0 with two knockouts. The bout is scheduled for the undisputed super-lightweight championship, with Taylor bringing three major belts and the vacant WBC title completing the four-belt stakes.
The emotional setting is Taylor’s greatest advantage and perhaps her biggest danger. She cannot allow the occasion to push her into unnecessary exchanges. At 40, her most reliable route remains the disciplined one: fast entries, short combinations, lateral movement and clean exits.
Pili must disrupt Taylor’s rhythm, use her physical advantages and force the champion to fight at an uncomfortable pace. Winning isolated exchanges will not be enough; the challenger must clearly take rounds away from a home favorite in front of an enormous Dublin crowd.
Prediction
Pili is unbeaten, younger and carrying very little pressure compared with the occasion surrounding Taylor. But she has never operated on this level. Taylor’s experience, volume and ability to adjust should control most of the fight.

Paddy Donovan vs. Tyrone McKenna
This all-Irish welterweight fight has the ingredients to steal the show. Donovan is the sharper, more explosive offensive talent, while McKenna is experienced, awkward and willing to turn any contest into a demanding physical battle.
Donovan should control the cleaner exchanges if he avoids being dragged into prolonged inside fighting.

Dave Allen vs. Thomas Carty
Allen’s durability, experience and body punching make him a difficult assignment for any developing heavyweight. Carty is younger and carries real power, but he is coming off his first professional loss and now faces an opponent who knows how to extend fights and punish mistakes.
This could become a test of Carty’s composure more than his talent.

The Croke Park card begins Saturday with the main undercard scheduled for 2 p.m. Eastern / 1 p.m. Central on DAZN. Taylor and Pili’s ring walks are expected at approximately 5 p.m. Eastern / 4 p.m. Central, although boxing schedules can shift depending on earlier bouts.
