Gee Balance/The Who Dat Daily.com The Heavyweight Championship fight between Champ Deontay Wilder & Mandatory Challenger Dominic Breazeale was set for saturday night. The two massive heavyweights had bad blood between them over a hotel lobby conflict over two years ago, that came to head in the Barclays Center before a crowd over 13k. Deontay Wilder came into the bout with an awesome record of 40-0-1 with 39 KO’s verses the challenger Dominic Breazeale’s mark of 20-1-0 with 17 KO’s. Wilder came out in the first round and exchanged thunderous blows with Breazeale as the two try to establish dominance. Wilder looked to club away at Breazeale until the challenger return a sharp right straight that backed the champ off temporary. It wasn’t to long before Wilder smashed Breazeale with a solid left right combination that sent the challenger down to the mat with 55 seconds remaining in the round. The challenger hit the canvas in a shape of a star fish & attempted to climb to beat the account but failed. Wilder jumped and spun around in the ring as the challenger stood dazed held by the referee. Wilder foretold the fans and world not to blink because it wouldn’t took long to dispatch Breazeale. He was quoted after the fight “Everything just came out of me tonight,” Wilder said. “I know it’s been a big buildup. There’s been a lot of animosity and a lot of words that were said, and it just came out of me tonight. That’s what makes boxing so great.” Wilder reached elite company with retaining his title for the ninth consecutive time, Wilder tied Muhammad Ali (during his first title reign), Joe Frazier, Mike Tyson (in his first reign) and Lennox Lewis (in his second reign) on the all-time heavyweight list. The all-time record for any division is 25 by Joe Louis. After the fight was over Wilder told Breazeale “I just told Breazeale I love him, and, of course, I want to see him go home to his family,” Wilder said. “I know we say some things, but when you can fight a man and then you can hug him and kiss him, I wish the world was like that. We shake hands, and we live to see another day, and that’s what it’s all about.” The next fight people want to see is the unification of the heavyweight division with a massive fight between US Champion Wilder & UK Heavyweight 4 Belt Champion Anthony Joshua. Joshua who is 22-0 21 KO’s faces Andy Ruiz on June 1st in New York’s Madison Square Garden. A win by Joshua should unleash more than enough pressure to force the two champions together in what could be a huge series of fights that the division hasn’t seen in a while. In the undercard Gary Russell Jr (30-1 18 KO’s) the featherweight champion destroyed opponent Kiko Martinez. The fight was over due to stoppage in the 5th round from bloody cuts over the challengers eye. Russell battered Martinez and dominated him all fight long to retain his title. “I did pretty well,” Russell said. “We stayed behind the jab, and he couldn’t get past it. We knew that intellect over athleticism would get it done.” Russell Jr’s only loss came against Vasiliy Lomachenko for a vacant featherweight belt in 2014, has his eyes on unification next. “We want Leo Santa Cruz. We want to make this fight happen,” Russell said. “The fire is all the way hot on this side of the field. You will get burned. I would love for that fight to happen this year. Let’s make it happen.”
