RIYADH — Canelo Alvarez left Halloween night with a world championship again. The Mexican star defeated Christian Mbilli by unanimous decision Saturday at Kingdom Arena, reclaiming the WBC super middleweight title and giving Ring Kings’ weekend wrap-up its biggest headline.
The judges scored the main event 115–112, 116–111 and 117–110. Mbilli went the distance, but Alvarez secured all three cards in a return that puts him back in possession of one of the division’s major belts.
The supporting card brought its own movement: Jaime Munguia won a decision, Rafael Espinoza delivered a third-round stoppage, and Carl Jammes Martin emerged from a split decision against David Picasso with an important victory.
Quick facts
- Main event: Alvarez defeated Mbilli by unanimous decision over 12 rounds.
- Championship: Alvarez reclaimed the WBC super middleweight belt.
- Other results: Munguia won on points; Espinoza and Reito Tsutsumi won by stoppage.
- The takeaway: Alvarez’s return produced a title, while the undercard supplied both decisive finishes and a closely scored result.
Canelo’s experience carried the championship rounds
Alvarez’s cleaner work separated the fighters as the bout developed. The Ring’s ringside account described a competitive opening half before the former champion’s accuracy and experience gave him greater control. Reuters’ report also identified his counters and body punching as central features of the victory.
That combination matters against a fighter who can make opponents uncomfortable through pressure. Finding the target while limiting the price paid in return is a different challenge from merely matching activity. Saturday’s result rewarded Alvarez’s ability to make those exchanges work in his favor.
Mbilli had opportunities and completed the distance, but the scorecards left no split verdict to debate. His first professional defeat arrived in the largest test of his career.
A title restored, with the next step still to be decided
Alvarez improved to 64–3–2, according to Reuters. The victory followed his September 2025 defeat to Terence Crawford, which had cost him the undisputed super middleweight championship.
Regaining the WBC belt gives his next outing a clear championship stake. It also gives the rest of the division a familiar name to pursue. The useful distinction is between that opportunity and an agreed fight: this result establishes Alvarez as champion, while his next opponent still requires an announcement.
For Mbilli, the immediate task is a technical review of how he approached a veteran counterpuncher. The Ring questioned why his usual work rate did not consistently appear. Whether that reflected his choices, Alvarez’s deterrence, or both belongs at the center of the postfight assessment.
AND STILL 👑
Jaime Munguia wins a slugfest with Nikita Zon by unanimous decision to retain his WBA super middleweight title 👏#CaneloMbilli | @RiyadhSeason | Live on DAZN 🥊 pic.twitter.com/v239Rqk9a3— Ring Magazine (@ringmagazine) October 31, 2026
Munguia went the distance; Espinoza finished early
Munguia defeated Nikita Zon by unanimous decision over 12 rounds, with scores of 117–111, 117–111 and 116–112. He left with a clear verdict after completing the full assignment.
Espinoza’s night was much shorter. He stopped Ricardo Blandon in the third round of their WBO featherweight title contest. Tsutsumi also produced an early finish, stopping Raymundo Rojas in the second round.
Those outcomes gave the card a useful range: a championship fight decided by sustained execution at the top, and supporting bouts in which the winners brought matters to an earlier conclusion.
IMPRESSIVE UPSET 👏

Martin edged Picasso; Nurmaganbet added a first-round finish
Martin defeated Picasso by split decision after 10 rounds. Two judges favored Martin, 96–93 and 95–94, while the third scored it 95–94 for Picasso.
Bek Nurmaganbet needed only the opening round to beat Marcos Vazquez Rodriguez. FightBook’s full-card results also recorded a fourth-round stoppage for Emiliano Rojo over Flavius Biea and a decision win for Brayan Leon over Hector Aguirre.
What the weekend means
Alvarez supplied the result with the largest immediate effect on the championship picture. The undercard created separate talking points, from Martin’s close verdict to Espinoza’s successful finish.
For Ring Kings, the next conversation starts with matchmaking: which performances earn a higher level of opposition, and which contender gets the chance to challenge the returning WBC champion? Saturday settled who won. The coming announcements will determine what those wins are worth next.
